Windows 7, Starting atom.exe from command line

#1

Hi, i would like to start atom.exe from my command line

My problem is that the atom does not return to the command prompt after it started

I have tried with

  • atom .
  • atom
  • atom --help

I have got the similar result, please advice what to do.

P.S. I’m sure this used to work like charm when Atom was the beta.

Thanks

It looks like atom gives back control to the terminal before it prints the help message. Hit enter again, and you can probably enter commands again.

Additionally, don’t execute the atom.exe itself.
Upon installation, You should have your PATH variable updated, pointing to the bin directory, in your case C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\Atom\bin.

This is where both atom.cmd and apm.cmd are located and launching this will always open the latest version of Atom that is installed.

Awesome

But I am curious about .cmd file is kind of .sh script, can Windows executes this kind of file by default?

Yes, it’s a batch script, Windows’ version of a shell script. Windows executes it just like Linux executes shell scripts.
