Why do my windows have two title bars?

Several weeks ago, my windows started opening with two title bars. There’s a second bar underneath the MacOS title bar, with the same information as the title bar (name of current file and path to it). When I drag this bar, it drags the window. Right-clicking on it does nothing. I thought that maybe it was a way of bundling multiple windows (which would be useful), but attempting to drag a window onto another just moves the window.

What is the purpose of this bar, and how can I get rid of it? I’m asking here because neither Internet search nor search fo this forum turned up anything relevant. Thanks.

What happens when you start Atom from the command line with atom --safe? What happens if you rename ~/.atom and then open Atom?

I have the same problem

In both cases, I get a new window with the two title bars.

@gersonsamayoa @jbnv - do either of you have View > Show Tab Bar checked?

Actually yes. And when I unchecked it, the second title bar went away.
