What selector do I use to style only highlighted text?

I’m trying to modify the styles.less file to increase the contrast a little between selected and non-selected text. (I switch back and forth between a few syntax themes depending on what I’m doing, but they’re all dark, so I likely just light the background-color for selected text a little).
The challenge I’m having is figuring out exactly which selector I need to created the rule for. I’ve played around with the dev tools trying to identify it, but so far without success.
Anyone know what it is?

.highlight is the class given to highlighted regions.

But to style the actual highlighted region you would need:
atom-text-editor .highlight .region
