Virus in .exe atom

#1

hello,
I wanted to download “atom” to win8. When I launched the .exe, Avast (antivirus) has detected a virus in the program.
Is this normal, probably not.
where can I download “atom” without virus?

Best regards

It’s common practice nowadays to bundle apps with viruses. Since you’re going to be part of a botnet sooner or later at least you can choose which botnet you belong to.

Ok, joke aside, this is a false positive, as reported in this issue:

Thank you for your reply.

It should be safe.

AFAIK, Avast recognizes the installer because of the way the application is bundled and the installation behavior is similiar to how viruses are getting deployed on Windows.

I think you can just disable Avast, install Atom and then enable avast again, then you should be good to go. Of course, until this is fixed, you probably have to do this every time you want to update Atom.

Alternatively, you can also get the .zip file of Atom for Windows, and just extract it somewhere.
