Unable to open project folder - The directory does not exist

My setting is set to “Restore Previous Windows On Start,” but when I reopen, instead of restoring, I get an error saying “Unable to open project folder.”

Also when I open Atom by double clicking the file I want to open, the tree view does not show the file’s folder.

Also when I open Atom by double clicking the file I want to open, the tree view does not show the file’s folder.

This was intentional as of 1.36.0:

So as explained in the post, this change was introduced for performance reasons - if you want the tree view, you can open the containing directory instead of the single file. See https://github.com/atom/atom/issues/19147#issuecomment-482634342 for more discussion.

You can edit file ~/.atom/storage/application.json and remove project folder entry which is does not exist.
