Unable to install on Windows 10 because of missing AppData path

#1

I tried the workaround for Windows 10 of disabling the virus scanner. That didn’t work.

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\atom\packages\RELEASES does not exist.

The actual error message is System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path ‘C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Code\packages\RELEASES’.
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath).
where %username% is my user name.
Visual Studio Code is installed. An older version of Atom was installed and not working correctly, and not upgrading. It was installed the last time by Chocolatey, but I removed it completely and tried reinstalling from the download.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Code\ and C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\atom\ both exist, but there’s no “packages” subdirectory. Code has an “app-0.1.1” directory. atom has an “app-1.12.7” subdirectory.

After a Windows Update and reboot, this problem vanished. Honestly not sure why.

That error you’re reporting is usually a red herring - there’s almost always another error hidden in the log files somewhere that’s causing the actual problem. If this happens again, copy/paste the entire log here.
