Unable to clone Github repository to Atom

I am trying to clone a github repository but I get the following error when I hit clone
Screenshot 2020-09-24 at 11.51.18

I have tried with multiple different repositories both public and private but the issue persists

I am using a Mac and have removed Atom several times now, with the issue persisting
I have used the following commands to remove associated folders
rm -rf ~/.atom
rm -rf /usr/local/bin/atom
rm -rf /usr/local/bin/apm
rm -rf /Applications/Atom.app
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.github.atom.plist
rm -rf ~/“Library/Application Support/com.github.atom.ShipIt”
rm -rf ~/“Library/Application Support/Atom”
rm -rf ~/“Library/Saved Application State/com.github.atom.savedState”
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.github.atom
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.github.atom.Shipit
rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/Atom

If I use http in the repository link it creates the project but does not show any of the folders

Any assistance on resolving this problem would be great

I saw that error once on Ubuntu when I didn’t have git installed separate from Atom.

Do you have the git command available on the command-line?

If you open the Terminal app and clone a repository, what do you get? Example command to try:
git clone https://github.com/octocat/Spoon-Knife
