Two icons in taskbar (Windows)

I am not sure if other people face the same issue or not.
When I launch the atom it shows two icons.

Here is the image:

That’s happened to me before. I pin the new one and unpin the old one.

Yes. I have tried that many times but the problem still exist.

Does it happen every time you start Atom, even when there hasn’t been an update?

Happens every time.

I have no idea what’s going on, so I’m going to ask a lot of questions and we can see if we can find a way for the behavior to stop. How do you open Atom? Try opening it from the command line with the atom command, then try opening it directly in AppData/Local/atom. There’s an atom.exe file in that folder and another one in the folder for the latest version. You can try both.

Still facing the same issue.

Earlier I have created an issue on Github also, but no proper solution.

Hi, I’ve also noticed this issue since updating to v1.40.

What’s more frustrating for me is that I like to have custom taskbar icons. I used to be able to simply change the app.icon file that was in C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\atom\app.ico and then the taskbar icon would change to reflect this.

Something has changed in 1.40 and I have no idea where the app gets its taskbar icon from but I’ve been unable to track it down. Hoping to get help because I don’t like this sore thumb. :frowning:

Clicking my Atom shortcut in the picture below opens a new taskbar icon regardless of whether my shortcut points to C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\atom or C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\atom\app-1.40.0\

I’ve completely removed and re-installed Atom (including manually removing appdata and .atom folders) and that didn’t fix this.
