Tabbing - default functionality

When opening a new tab with the fuzzy finder or ‘search in directory’, it seems like sometimes a tab is added for the selected file and other times my current tab is replaced, in which case I lose said tab.

The desired behavior is always the former and never the latter. Can I set this preference as a default?

Atom, like other modern text editors, use the concept if pending panes. An editor tab won’t be persistent unless you

  1. make edits to the file
  2. save the file
  3. use double-click (in the treeview) to open the file
  4. double-click the tab

If none of the above is true, changing the file will use the same tab. This is meant to keep the tab count low and stay focused on files you’re actually editing.

You can disable this behaviour in the core editor settings.
