Syntax highlighting flickers for a second when any file is opened

#1

When I open a file in Atom, the colors flicker several times in the first second after opening.

Example files:

Using Atom 0.186.0 on OS X 10.10.2.

#2

I tried the C file and couldn’t reproduce what you report using Atom v0.188.0-f8cbb67 on Mac OS X 10.10.2. Can you be more specific as to exactly how you’re opening the file and what you see?

#3

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the project tree in Atom.
  2. In the project tree, click the C or Ruby file.

#4

I tried cloning your mcandre/mcandre repository, opening the entire project and then clicking those files from the tree view. There was an almost imperceptible delay in the colors popping after the text itself … but no flickering that I could see.

Do you use HD or SSD on your machine to store this project?

#5

I’m using a 13" mid-2013 MacBook Air, Intel Haswell Core i7 with an SSD.

#6

What syntax theme, some may be slower than others? I haven’t seen flickering, but I have seen white text transitioning to colored text.

#7

That’s a good point. I’m using monokai.
