Symbols-view:goto-declaration doesn't work [python]

#1

Wondering if anybody else has insight into this. Since its one of the most important things for an editor to have, I really want to get this working.

There is an open issue here: https://github.com/atom/symbols-view/issues/9

I have a tags file.
I can easily find the item using shift-cmd-R (lookup symbol)
In Key Binding Resolver I can see it matching.
context-menu ‘goto declaration’ also does not succeed.

10% of the time it does work. No idea why.

As noted in the issue by others, some feedback that nothing was found would be nice, or what error occurred that caused it to bail.
If not found then open the lookup and show any close matches.

any other python users having success ?

thanks

Have you followed the suggestions in the Debugging document? Also, could you give the following information?

  • Which version of Atom are you using?
  • What OS and version are you running?
  • Can you reproduce the issue after completely exiting Atom and restarting using atom --safe?

#3

atom 0.126.0
OS X 10.9
Python 2.7.5

Issue is still there in safe mode.
No messages posted in console.

I’ll step through the source code myself and find out what’s blocking it.

I think since the issue I posted isn’t closed that it must be known and acknowledged.
I’m fishing for other people who’ve run into it.

This also happens to me. I haven’t dug into the source yet.

#5

It doesn’t work for me with the latest version:
atom 0.177.0
Ubuntu Linux 14.04
Python 2.7.6

The issue is not solved after completely exiting Atom and restarting.

#6

This still does not work. I just gave up and I have to use shift-command-R and then type in the name of the thing I want to search for.

This is such a shame. Its the most essential thing for an editor to have and obviously there is something broken here, but there is no feedback or error message, just silent failure.

What can we do ?

#7

it’s not working for me either:

Atom 1.0.9
Python 3.4
Debian 8
