At least on my machines, Atom seems to disable and bypass the system subpixel font rendering settings, giving surprisingly janky font rendering on non-retina displays. Is this a known bug?
Yup I’m noticing the same thing.
I suspect that’s what I’m seeing on non-retina displays that would account for the differences in how the fonts appear compared with another Mac editor, such as Coda. Atom’s fonts render at larger size and in thinner strokes. What looks like 12pt in Coda takes 13pt in Atom; 12pt in Atom is quite noticeably smaller than 12pt in Coda.
Is it possible that Atom has it’s own font rendering engine rather than using the system’s?
