Show lambda as λ

Emacs is able to display a string (such as lambda) using another character (such as λ). See for example here and Emacs’ package prettify-symbols-mode. I am using this feature heavily when editing TeX files where I have setup Emacs to display many commands such as \alpha, \equiv, etc. using the corresponding mathematical symbol.

Does Atom offer a similar capability? If not, is this something that would be reasonably easy to implement?
