Scroll Bar Missing, Uneeded Line Number Spaces

#1

Probably a noobtastic question, but why is the scroll bar gone? And why is there unneeded space around line numbers?

Answers appreciated! :slight_smile:

#2

That’s the area for folding markers:

I don’t know. Can you reproduce the problem in Safe Mode? To launch Safe Mode:

  1. Completely exit all instances of Atom
  2. Launch Atom with the command atom --safe

#3

With the safe option the scroll bar returns.

That’s the area for folding markers

I thought it had to do with line numbers?

#4

The gutter holds a lot of things … line numbers, folding markers, git diff indicators, etc.

#5

Ok well, I don’t really have any experience themeing Atom, so what do you suggest I change?
It seems like (from my limited knowledge of CSS) it would be something like the margin or padding?
Also, to fix the scroll bar issue should I just append --safe in the .desktop file, or is there there a better way?
Thanks for the help!

#6

Well, safe mode disables all your community packages. So a better option would probably be to find the offending community package and report the bug to the package’s author so that they can fix it :slight_smile:. You may want to try using the package-cop package.

#7

I have no Commmunity Packages actually…
Installed Package Cop, not sure what to do with it?
The missing scoll bar is still persistent…

#8

What about community themes?

#9

Yep still the same, chose a couple of random syntax and ui themes:

If I understand correctly, you don’t care about seeing fold marker, bookmarks, git diff, etc. in the gutter and want to reduce the space between the line numbers and the editor.

In that case, drop the following in your styles.less file:

atom-text-editor.editor {
    .gutter .icon-right {
        display: none;
    }
}

I’m new to Atom and not a CSS guru, but that should do the trick. YMMV.

Cheers.

EDIT: No idea about the scrollbar issue. Sorry.

#11

That does indeed improve the unneeded line number spaces. :slight_smile:

However I still have the randomly disappearing scroll bar, that has not been resolved yet. :expressionless:

#12

What is the output of atom --version?

#13
$: atom --version
Atom    : 1.15.0
Electron: 1.4.15
Chrome  : 53.0.2785.143
Node    : 6.5.0

Yeah, that’s what I suspected. You’re running an unofficial distribution that breaks the scrollbars. I would highly recommend uninstalling it and reinstalling Atom from https://atom.io.
