Saving file with right filetype

I want to be able to set the default filetype to save as e.g. .htm so that when I try to save a file it isn’t blank and is already appended with .htm

How would I be able to do this? Thanks

See the FAQ:

Maybe, I didn’t correct asked my question (sorry, for my English).
I open Atom. Create New file, change syntax from Plain Text to HTML, for example. And when I saving file Atom don’t writing .html in finish of name file. I took a few pictures to explain my question

Ah ok. You are correct, Atom doesn’t do that. There isn’t a way to make Atom do that out of the box.

This is a important improvement. When I create a new file (default is textplain), then automatically add .txt extension to filename at save it

I do have the same question.Hope ATOM could imporve this by adding the suffix follow the syntax that used in the editor when saving files.
