Problem with animated gifs

#1

i don’t know if anybody else is having this problem but animated gifs for git-log and stacktrace plugin at blog.atom.io are the source of memory leaks both at chromium 35.0.1916.153 and iceweasel 31.1.0. (debian testing linux). while other animated gifs are working just fine - no memory leaks. it leaks really fast and after a while my system gets unresponsive.

thanks

Since GIFs, even animated ones, are just data … isn’t this a bug for the Chromium and IceWeasel versions you mention?

#3

My desktop chrome has a terrible time with large animated gifs. It will slow down and stop. It’s really weird, how could that be so hard?

#4

yes its a bug both in chromium and firefox.

but i was hoping it could be easier for you to change those animated gifs to smaller size than to wait firefox and chromium to fix those bugs.

firefox/iceweasel has some related bugs with animated gifs.
one from 2009. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=523950
another from 2013 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=926048
chromium has that bug reported in june 2014.

In that case you should report this issue directly on the repo of the concerned packages.
