Packages page on atom.io need improvements

I wanted to start a thread on ways to improve the packages page on atom.io in order to improve extension discovery, if atom.io devs might be interested in an idea pool.

I’ll trow the first ideas in:

• add categories to packages, and each category to have it’s featured and trending sections. It’s boring to come to the packages sections and see the same packages in trending and especially featured.

• this somehow extends the previous one: update the featured section with new packages every week / month. It seems there are more or less the same packages featured since the beginning of time

Anyone else got any ideas ?

Feature Request: Better package discovery and stats

As mentioned in my previous topic of feature requests, I feel that it's quite hard at the moment to determine which packages are better than others at dong the same jobs. Earlier packages will have more installs and this will artificially inflate their importance, whereas newer, better, more-often-updated packages that do the same thing may be overlooked by most people seeing that large shiny number on the old package.
