I just installed Atom on Windows. I was surprised by the size and complexity of the installation package. Is there any cross-platform installation that does not include Windows-specific DLL files?
Unfortunately, at the moment Atom has to bundle a large part of Chromium in its installation. That’s the reason of its big installation package…
There is no cross-platform installer if that’s what you’re asking. However, on all three platforms, Atom relies on Electron to provide the base layer upon which Atom modules are running that themselves are cross-platform (i.e. common web tech).
In turn, Electron is built on Chromium, which itself does come with a bunch of platform-specific stuff (such as DLLs etc).
This will also be the same for all platforms, I’m sure, as it will be difficult to separate all of that from each other.
