Make Atom default editor in High Sierra?

I’ve recently got a new computer and put High Sierra on it, but for some reason, all my non-extension files (README, LICENSE, Dockerfile etc) open in TextEdit, and trying to change the default application results in:

An error occurred while changing the application that opens “LICENSE” because not enough information is available.

Do you want to open “LICENSE” with “Atom”?

I don’t recall having this issue before High Sierra, and I had these files opening with Atom no problem.

Any ideas how to make Atom the default for these files?
