Mac typing Option-b, then u, does not create "ŭ"

I am using a Mac, and the “ABC - Extended” keyboard. Normally i can put a breve over a letter u (as in right here -> ŭ), by typing Option (Alt)-b, then the letter u. But in Atom (version 1.12.7), when i type Option-b, the cursor moves to the beginning of the previous word. I searched for “key bindings”, but i’m not finding anything. (As you can guess, i’m new to Atom.)

I can do other overstrikes like ĉ, ĝ, ĥ, ĵ, ŝ, (because they take Option-6, then the letter) but not ŭ.

I would love to know if this is a bug in Atom, or is it just me? I believe that in previous versions of Atom i could just write without any problems, but maybe that combination didn’t come up before?

Thank you for any help.

Have you tried using the Keybinding Resolver (Cmd+. on OS X and Ctrl+. on other platforms)? It will show you what key Atom saw you press and the command that was triggered because of it.

(It is also mentioned in the Debugging section of the Atom Flight Manual.)
