Loading files with a lot of lines

I have seen a performance issue with files that have a lot of lines. It’s happened by accident when clicking a CSV file, which preemptively opens the file. Have not seen it with lengthy lines though.

Anyone else?

I just reproduced this by creating the following Ruby script to create a file just short of the 2MB limit with nearly as many lines as possible:

#!/usr/bin/env ruby

open("#{ENV['HOME']}/data", 'w') do |f|
  (1024 * 1020).times { f.puts 'a' }

When I opened this file in Atom, it bogged down and I got the “Editor not responding” dialog. I said to keep waiting and waited a few more minutes, it never did finish.

Thanks. This is a known issue that we plan on addressing!
