I wish dots (.) could match a newline with regular expression find and replace

#1

The Atom editor lets me use regular expressions in a find and replace. In Notepad++ there is a checkbox for a dot (.) to match a newline. I wish there was something similar in Atom.

For example I was testing regular expressions in the editor (I love the UI for finding text in Atom) and then using the tested regular expression in a python script.

Right now the only workaround I can think of is to replace any instance of the dot . with (.|\r\n|\n|\r) so:
\(.+?\)
becomes
\((.|\r\n|\n|\r)+?\)

While I agree with your request, I think you can simplify your workaround:
\((.|\n|\r)+?\)
works as well, and so is
\((.|[\n\r])+?\)
