How do I remove a folder from Git?

Hello guys,

I have accidentally added some folders to Git. Or rather it popped up and I experimented. Now all the folders on the left are orange and green, instead of regular white.

How do i remove this? How do i stop Git?

There is no option to just stop Git and there is no option to remove certain folders from it. Which is annoying.

Can anyone please help? I want to go back to my normal, non-Git, way of working. (I think it’s messing with my “https://livejs.com” script.

Thank you in advance.

Well, I sort of figured it out by simply removing my email and user name and saying “apply to all gits”

But then all my html, php etc files were gone! So be careful.

Honestly I don’t understand why there isn’t a simple option of “remove this project from git” to make it local again.

  1. Remove Git from a project rm -rf .git
  2. Remove a folder from Git git rm —cached <folder>
