Grunt-build-atom-shell vs grunt-download-electron

The useful electron-starter repo use grunt-build-atom-shell to download and compile the electron source code. I’ve read about the reason (Renaming atom.exe breaks native modules issue) for that. Then I started to take a deeper look into the atom packaging process and they just download the electron build and modify it. If I’m not wrong, also for windows.

Now I’m a little bit confused which way is the better way. Personally I would prefer the download task because, this doesn’t require a rebuild for each system.

Any thoughts on this?
