Expanding @-mentions to support packages?

I just had a thought and I was wondering if others who are maybe more familiar with the GitHub API could tell me if it is possible. I was thinking that if I wanted to contact the owners of a package, rather than hunting down the repo through the Atom packages pages and then figuring out the mapping of GitHub user name to Discuss user name and finally @-mentioning the owner here, we could just @-mention the package name … like @tabs-to-spaces and it would notify the package owners/collaborators.

Thoughts? Feasible?

I’m not sure Discourse can be rigged to mix user names with package names via an @ sign.

But maybe that mechanism can be cloned for a different activation character, like the # sign is used on Github for automatic linking to issue numbers.
Maybe it could be used on here to do the same with packages in atom.io?
