Error loading themes

Anyone seen this error loading themes: Invalid or unexpected tokenShow output…

The show output link doesn’t reveal anything.

Symptoms: about the first 10 community themes don’t show up in the list, though they do show up in the theme selector

fyi, I made the error go away by manually deleting the packages for some of the themes that weren’t showing up. Don’t know exactly which one was the culprit
