Constant Kernel Panic

#1

Hi, I’ve been using AtomIO on my MacBook Pro 2016 13", since last week my Mac begun having a couple kernel panics, sometimes 3 times in a row, I asked in the forums and they told me that it could be Atom, I reinstalled my OsSierra yesterday and everything was working fine I installed Atom again and Google Chrome and it started happening again.

I want to know if someone else has this problem.

What version of Atom are you using? Do you use any other Electron apps?

For testing purposes, you should try starting Atom with atom --safe and seeing if you have a panic then. If you don’t use any other Electron apps, you should try one and see if it causes a panic.

#3

I’m now using the MBP to see if the problem persists, so far no kernel panics in the last hours. I’ll keep this updated if anything happens.

#4

As stated in this issue:

Whenever a kernel panic occurs, it’s the fault of a kernel module, never a user-mode process. Usually this is caused by faulty RAM, and Atom is disproportionately the victim process because Atom uses a lot of RAM

#5

So what do you recommend? Asking for the RAM replacement?

#6

If you’re having kernel panics constantly, I would recommend taking your machine in and having it checked, yes.

#7

It stopped, since I removed Atom… It could be a RAM issue but it doesn’t exactly mean it’s a faulty RAM slot. I’ve been working the whole day with no problem, but I do miss using Atom as my editor.

#8

So the problem came back with the same error, apparently not Atom’s fault. Still really strange.

#9

Well finally I brought my MBP to the repair shop and apparently it was the motherboard’s fault. Thankfully I’m getting a free replacement because of my warranty.

#10

I’m glad to hear that things are getting fixed for you :+1:
