Cannot Run atom on LUbuntu 18.10

#1

Dear All,

I have downloaded the atom.deb package and installed it via dpkg.
When launching atom, I get this error :
/usr/bin/atom: line 141: 10788 Segmentation fault (core dumped) nohup "$ATOM_PATH" --executed-from="$(pwd)" --pid=$$ "$@" > "$ATOM_HOME/nohup.out" 2>&1

Can’t find any other information…

If someone could help…

Best Regards

Hey guys,

I was having the same issue on Xubuntu 18.10. Just upgraded yesterday, and now I’m trying to run Slack or Atom, and neither application started, both failed with Seg Fault errors and both were installed directly from the Deb file with DPKG.

When I ran atom in the terminal, I got this in stdout:

usr/bin/atom: line 141: 8146 Segmentation fault (core dumped) nohup "$ATOM_PATH" --executed-from="$(pwd)" --pid=$$ "$@" > "$ATOM_HOME/nohup.out" 2>&1

And this in journalctl:

kernel: atom[8146]: segfault at e6e0c0 ip 0000000000e6e0c0 sp 00007fffb9f15118 error 15 in atom[200000+1603000]

I removed Atom with apt remove, and then added the repository with:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://packagecloud.io/AtomEditor/atom/any/ any main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/atom.list'

and then re-installed with apt update and apt install atom. It was fixed.

Best regards

Crashes with Ubuntu 18.10 and Fedora 29 (I believe) were related to a glibc issue /cc https://github.com/atom/atom/pull/18012. This should be fixed in 1.32 which is the current stable version of Atom.
