Cannot install Atom on Windows 7

#1

I am unable to install Atom on a new Windows 7 machine (laptop). A snippet from the log file indicates an access issue:

2016-09-07 21:37:40> IEnableLogger: Failed to install package to app dir: System.AggregateException: One or more errors occurred. —> System.IO.IOException: Access to the path ‘resources’ is denied.
at System.IO.DirectoryInfo.MoveTo(String destDirName)
at Squirrel.UpdateManager.ApplyReleasesImpl.<>c__DisplayClassb4.<>c__DisplayClassb9.<>c__DisplayClassbb.b__b2(DirectoryInfo subdir)
at Squirrel.Utility.<>c__DisplayClass18`1.<>c__DisplayClass1a.b__17()
at System.Threading.Tasks.Task.InnerInvoke()
at System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Execute()
— End of stack trace from previous location where exception was thrown —

Any suggestions on how I may get around this?

Looks like the fix is to disable the virus scanner. There should be a check in the installer to recommend trying this when things go wrong.
