#1

I tried to install atom many times and have been met with repeated failure. I have even tried to uninstall my anti-virus Bitdefender altoghether but it still doesn’t work. Help

Here is the log:

This is why. Because your user name is Antony Brun.DESKTOP-AAH86U0, Windows isn’t able to write some of the files that Squirrel is asking it to write. This is a known Windows problem, and the only fixes I know of are for you to change your user name, or for you to use Atom in portable mode. Portable mode doesn’t rely on Squirrel to install things and you won’t be reminded that Windows includes an arbitrary path length limitation that should have been phased out in the 90s.

I’m not a Windows user, but I recently installed Python on a friends Windows 10 machine.
The Python installer asks you to disable the path length limitation. Just saying … hope it helps.

Disable path length limit
Changes your machine configuration to allow programs, including Python, to
bypass the 260 character “MAX_PATH” limitation.

I’m all good, i found out yesterday how to fix the problem. All you have to do is to change the user name to a shorter one. I followed a video on youtube on how to change my username and then i was able to install atom. Thank you for responding anyways
