Cannot connect Atom to GitHub

I have tried numerous times to pull a repository from github in Atom. Is there something I need to do outside of Atom to get this to work? I went to https://atom.io/login and it gave me a token. I have no idea where to use it. When I go to https://atom.io/account, it presents another token which again, I have no idea where to use. I am running Atom 1.52 on MacOS Catalina using git version 2.29.1.

After git installation, I did the following to set it up:

brew install git
git config --global user.name “my name”
git config --global user.email “my email address”
git config --global credential.helper osxkeychain

When I am in Atom and select Github Clone, I enter the repository I created in Github as well as a target directory. Then in the Github tab, I see a button that says “Initialize and Publish” and select that. It brings up a dialog box called “Publish Github Repository”. On that screen are a number of options. The first is to specify the repository. There is a dropdown where you are supposed to be able to select the account or organization where the repository exists, but that just says “Loading” and nothing more. That never changes. The rest is the repository itself both remote and local. I select “Private” for visibility. I can’t go anywhere else because the the repository issue with the account or user selection.

Keep in mind that my account uses 2FA. I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure this out and read numerous articles and youtube, but they never go into how to set this stuff up. HELP!!! I’m at the end of the road.
