Can Atom use native Mac OS X spellchecking (dictionaries or UI)?

#1

Is there any possibility that Atom could use the native Mac OS X spellchecker system? In particular I use my editor to write markdown documents and just general writing in plain text … but I’m finding the absence of my OS X spellcheck behavior problematic. I miss the words I’ve already added to the dictionary on OS X and I miss the convenient right-click to correct or learn the spelling (add to the dictionary).

So this is actually a two fold question:

  • Any chance of using the Mac OS X built in spellcheck UI?
  • If not, and I can see the cross-platform issues, any chance of importing the dictionary built up in my OS X?
  • Failing both of those, can I add words to the dictionaries that Atom does use?

You might need to find (or write) a Node package that interacts with the spellcheck UI.

If not, and I can see the cross-platform issues, any chance of importing the dictionary built up in my OS X?

It’s definitely possible to add additional functionality to the spell-check package, which probably includes pointing at the native dictionary.
