Can atom compile the code I'm looking at and editing - not the last saved version


Maybe I don’t have something set properly in Atom, but I just can’t get used the idea that my atom sessions compile and flash the “last saved version” of my code - not the code I’m working on. Is this expected behavior?
I wouldn’t mind if it asked me to save prior to compiling/flashing or just compiled/flashed the code in the open windows without saving, but I don’t get why anyone would want the IDE to compile a version of code other than what is displayed.
