Build next step ERROR

#1

Hi guys, I’m following the documentation to build an application. Here are my steps:

  1. I cloned the electron repository.

  2. I ran the bootstrap.py script and it took many hours but finally setting up my folder structure.

  3. Now I run ./script/build-dist.py to build but I get this error:

    sysadmin@ubuntu:/mnt/sdb5/electron$ ./script/create-dist.py
    ninja: Entering directory `out/R’
ninja: fatal: chdir to ‘out/R’ - No such file or directory
    Traceback (most recent call last):

    sys.exit(main())

    File “./script/create-dist.py”, line 99, in force_build
    execute([sys.executable, build, ‘-c’, ‘Release’])
File “/mnt/sdb5/electron/script/lib/util.py”, line 166, in execute
    raise e
    subprocess.CalledProcessError: Command ‘[’/usr/bin/python’, ‘/mnt/sdb5/electron/script/build.py’, ‘-c’, ‘Release’]’ returned non-zero exit status 1

I have all the requirements installed.
Anyone have this problem?

Have you followed the instructions in the Electron Quick Start guide? You shouldn’t need to clone the Electron repository at all to create an Electron-based application.

#3

I downloaded the binaries manually ( I think ) as was suggested here:

manually-downloaded-electron-binary

from this page:
Electron on Github

Then I followed the steps from this page:
Build Instructions (Linux)

You don’t need to build Electron from source if you are trying to build an Electron-based application. If you follow the instructions in the Electron Quick Start guide that I linked above, it describes where you can download it so that you don’t have to build from source.

thanks @leedohm. I will switch over to my other thread: Application Distribution question

as I have been following quick-start tutorial instead.
