Atom preferences pane won't open

#1

After opening Atom, I try opening the preferences panel using either the option in the Atom menu or the option for opening settings when using CMD + P and neither is working.

Does anyone know why this is and how I can fix it? I’ve just installed Atom on a new laptop and would like to be able to configure it to my tastes

thanks in advance

If you open the devtools console is there any reported?

#3

No there’s nothing reported in the console

Have you followed the suggestions in the Debugging document? Also, could you give the following information?

  • Which version of Atom are you using?
  • What OS and version are you running?
  • Do you have the Emmet package installed?
  • Can you reproduce the issue after completely exiting Atom and restarting using atom --safe?

#5

Atom Version = 0.194.0
OS = Yosemite
Don’t have Emmet package installed as far as I am aware
Preferences open when in safe mode

This indicates that one of the packages you have installed is messing with the launching of the preferences pane. Also, you might want to ask @laktak what they did wrong in their package that caused the same issue:

Thanks for your help.

In the end I managed to fix this by removing ~/.atom and then uninstalling atom and reinstalling it.

Hopefully now I can spend some time trying to find out which package broke everything for me
