When I run Atom as my own user on a Linux Mint machine, everything works fine. However, I need to edit a file that requires root privileges, so I ran Atom as root, and it froze on startup. I decided I hadn’t made enough changes to Atom that I couldn’t just re-install and hope that fixed the problem. For a while it did. However, I have made no changes to Atom since the re-install, and a few days after the re-install it’s back to freezing on startup when run as root.
