That is an unfortunate result.
My guess is -> Clear up the Atom installation (uninstall) with an application such as
Wisecare. Source the official package that suit your system - carefully looking out to use 32-bit or 64-bit version to suit your machine.
Please consider getting an earlier version first. Let us say like V1.26. These you can get from https://github.com/atom/atom/releases/.
Please let the guys know what tasks you decided on and what the results were.
