Atom 1.7.3 crashes a lot on save, both Windows 10 and Windows 8.1

It has been frustrating working with the Atom editor, although, I love the community behind it; So I want to work with you guys.

My editor crashes on my laptop and my desktop. It happens mostly when I am saving files. I have a lot of tabs open, but honestly, all my files are small < 1MB each. Atom will crash whether I have 1 project open, or 5, on save. It happens a lot. I notice it also happens when I am performing webpack transpilations. I am pretty sure the IDE crashes every time I run webpack.

I am going to try and keep my tabs down to four or five, and report back here.

Laptop specs:
OS: Windows 8.1 Enterprise
RAM: 16.0 GB
Processor: Intel® Core i7-4712HQ

Desktop:
OS: Windows 10 Professional
RAM: 32 GB
Processor: Intel® Core i7-6700k

We’ve got someone looking into the crashes. Currently it seems that there is something deep down in the Chromium rendering engine that is breaking. We’re continuing to look into it.

Where can I view the progress? Is there an open PR on Github?

#4

There would be a PR open if there is a proposed fix. There isn’t one yet. I’ll see if they can post what they’ve found so far.

#5

I upgraded to beta and it is continuing to happen.

I’m on 1.8.0-beta4. Every time I run webpack, my editor crashes.

@courtyen is “webpack” an Atom package, or an external program? If it’s a package, does Atom still crash in safe mode (atom --safe)?
