drag-drop-text package for the Atom editor

Drag and drop text (and cut/copy/paste) with only the mouse. No keyboard is needed, not even the modifier keys.

Installation

Enter atom install drag-drop-text or use the settings page.


Usage

There is no Atom command. Actions are triggered by holding down the mouse in the text editor without moving for a certain duration. The duration defaults to 750 MS but can be changed in settings.

Operations fall into two categories. There are drag & drop text operations and normal cut/copy/paste operations. All operations use the normal clipboard. Instructions for each operation follow …


Drag & Drop Copy

  • Click and hold on selected text or double-click to select word and hold
  • Wait until selected text has a red border
  • Drag cursor to destination position and release

Drag & Drop Move

  • Click and hold on selected text or double-click to select word and hold
  • Wait until selected text disappears
  • Drag cursor to destination position and release

Cut & Paste

  • Click and hold on selected text or double-click to select word and hold
  • Wait until selected text disappears (cut)
  • Release mouse without moving
  • Move mouse to new position, press and hold (paste)

Copy & Paste

  • Click and hold on selected text or double-click to select word and hold
  • Wait until selected text has a red border (copy)
  • Release mouse without moving
  • Move mouse to new position, press and hold (paste)

I saw your post on the thread which explained how Atom is lacking the simple ‘drag and move’ that you have in sublime.

I came here thinking it would be perfect for me but i must say, im not a fan of holding and waiting for it just just allow me to move it, it is just going to slow down coding time.
