Add load time to package listings

#1

What if a standardized load time appeared in the atom.io package listings right next to number of downloads? This would serve to motivate package developers to keep their load time down. It would help people choosing a package be aware of the load time consequences.

It would require some automated process of loading every new package release on a reference machine.

And it could go away when load time is not a giant issue anymore.

I like this idea, but I can’t imagine having only that metric.
This will somehow encourage people to put everything in the activate method, and without the activation time, it can mislead a lot of users.

#3

I also feel that there are some packages for which I would willingly pay a higher load or activation cost than others because they have more useful functionality. Just having a raw number doesn’t tell me much.

Well, it would have been a lot more trouble to set up than it is worth.
